City tour of Irkutsk*: visit Church of the Savior, war memorial, Angara river embankment, Cathedral of Our Lady of the Sign, Monument to the Emperor Alexander III on the embankment.

*On Siberian map Irkutsk appeared in the middle of the XVII century. Irkutsk has a great number of monuments of wooden architecture. There are about 500 architectural monuments in the city, among which historically constructed ensembles are depicted. The greatest interest has the ancient part of the city including Church of the Savior and Znameniye Cathedral.

** Decembrist House Museum is connected with the family of Sergey Volkonsky, one of the Decembrists leaders. They lived for 30 years in Siberia, 17 of them they had been living in Irkutsk in this house. Original things of the Volkonsky family and other Decembrists are kept in the museum.

***From times immemorial bell chimes were a living attribute of Orthodox Church services.

One cannot image all the functions, attributed to bell chimes! They were known as a good incantation, bearing mystical and symbolic properties.

The bell chimes were an inalienable element of musical surrounding, existing in all towns and villages of vast Russia.

Irkutsk-Listvyanka-Irkutsk

Depart to lake Baikal, Listvyanka* settlement (67 km, 1 hour drive)

En-route stop at the Museum of Wooden Architecture*

Lunch at the restaurant

Listvyanka city-tour: Visit Baikal Museum*** with the aquarium with Baikal fish and freshwater seals - Nerpas, Shaman Rock****, St. Nicholas church and a Fish Market.

Take the ski-lift to the Chersky hill for a view on the Circum-Baikal Railroad*****

Transfer back to Irkutsk.

* Listvyanka is the village in the South-West of lake Baikal. The village dates back to 1701, when it became one of the first settlements of Russian people on the shores of Baikal. The image of the port village of Listvyanka was changed in the end of 19 century in connection with the construction of Tran-Siberian railroad. Today, the majority of population in Listvyanka is involved in tourism.

*On the Museum of Wooden Architecture "Taltsi" territory there are 13 architectural complexes with 36 wooden buildings. Some of them have exhibits which can help you understand the agricultural and cultural peculiarities of Transbaikal people of XIX-XX centuries.

**Baikal museum is a splendid museum where different material evidences, exhibits, in short all the information about Lake Baikal is kept, studied and exhibited: origin of the lake; representatives of the endemic flora and fauna from the surface of the lake to the maximum depth; excellent model of the bed of Baikal.

*** Shaman Rock is a natural boundary between the deepest lake in the world and the only river that flows out of the lake - the Angara River. Many local legends are attributed to this place. The rock is believed to be the house of one of the Buryat gods.

**** Chersky mountain is one of the highest mountains in Listvyanka it height of 755 meters above the sea level. Named after Ivan Chersky, a famous scientist from Poland the mountain today is one of the main tourist attractions in Listvyanka. The visitors of Chersky observation platform can enjoy the breathtaking and magnificent view both on the lake and the Angara river outflow.

Day 4
Irkutsk-Ulan-Ude

Breakfast.

Transfer to the railway station.

07:47 dep on #8 train to Ulan-Ude, arrive 14:22pm.

15:20 late lunch at the Ger restaurant (Buryat cuisine).

Visit Ethnography Museum**.

City-tour of Ulan-Ude

* Ulan-Ude is the capital city of the Republic of Buryatia, Russia, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Lake Baikal. In terms of population, it is the third largest city in eastern Siberia. Historical center of Verkhneudinsk (nowadays Ulan-Ude), merchants' houses of the XVII-XIX centuries, churches and the biggest monument to Lenin in the world.

**An open-air museum in the park area in the suburban part of Ulan-Ude. It includes: The Evenk, the Buryat, the Cossack, the Old Believers complexes. Authentic houses, gers, tepees, different household utensils, ancient furniture, national clothes.

Day 5
Ulan-Ude-Irkutsk

Breakfast at the hotel.

Full-day city-tour if Ulan-Ude:

Start touring with center of Buddhism in Russia – Ivolginsky Datsan Monastery*.

Lunch at the Atsagan village**.

Dinner at the Old Believers house with concert.

Transfer to the railway station.

22:20 depart to Irkutsk on 361 train.

* The Ivolginsky Monastery is the center of Buddhism in Russia. It is a beautiful temple opened for the visitors. Nowadays it also includes a famous Buddhist University "Dashi Choikhorling" (the name derives from the Tibetan language and means "the land of Happy teaching". Here Buddhist monks-scientists, specialists in Tibetan and Old Mongolian languages and orientalists are taught.

** Atsagat village is located 25 km from Ulan-Ude. Guests visit house of local teacher with Buryat ger in the yard. Tourists are welcomed with national songs, khadak and tea. Enjoy the concert ethnic songs and music and lunch of traditional Buryat cuisine.

***Old Believers of Buryatia are a colorful branch of Orthodox Russians exiled in Siberia in VIII century after the church reform carried out by Patriarch Nikon. They managed to save their culture, singing art, religion as they were two centuries ago. Dinner at the family, traditional games, Old Believers polyphonic songs and a lot of fun.

Day 6
Irkutsk

07:33 arrive to Irkutsk. Meeting upon arrival.

Breakfast at the café.

Independent time at the area of restored wooden houses, Irkutsk Sloboda.

9:30 Transfer to the airport.
